Going for a walk might be the best thing that you can do for your dog on a daily basis. Proper exercise is the key to keeping most behavioral issues under control. Most dog owners underestimate the amount of exercise that their dog needs. There are many other aspects of a good dog walk that are extremely beneficial to the dog. Being able to experience smells, sights, and sounds of the outdoors is very invigorating to your dog’s mind. Getting your dog accustomed to the outside world, and how to behave in it, is an important part of socializing your pup.
Sometimes the sights and sounds are overstimulating and this causes the dog to display unwanted behaviors like barking or lunging. SCPL’s caregivers are taught to reinforce the wanted good behaviors on the walk and to insure the dog gets less opportunity to practice unwanted behaviors. This knowledge and its application are very beneficial to the dog and its owner.
